Ok, where do I pick it up? Because I am pretty sure you earn some sort of mommy badge when you survive your first major virus while home alone with your kid/kids, right?! No? It just goes along with the job? Bummer… I wanted the badge.

This past week was a nightmare, as I am sure it was for many families in this area, because I got norovirus and it is going around like crazy. I am pretty sure there is no need to go in to detail what it means to have norovirus (google it) but lets just say I never pictured myself having to set up a fort and nurse my baby from my bathroom floor. It was awful, but I survived. I don’t know if I would have without the following things:

Amazon Prime Now  Like I said, I couldn’t get off of the bathroom floor, let alone even think about making a trip out to the store. Of course, by the time I got sick it was grocery shopping day so my cupboards were bare and my little birdie was running low on her organic food pouches (God forbid she doesn’t get her Plum Organics). On to Amazon Prime Now I went, and within 2 hours I had soup, gatorade, and baby food for a week.

Panera Delivery Because who doesn’t want a bowl of hot soup delivered to their door when they’re sick? If I can’t have my momma here, at least let me have my Panera! As a breastfeeding mom, even though the thought of food was awful, and I most likely was not going to keep it in, I NEEDED to at least try to give my body calories and this made it easier.

Doorway jumper I can’t even tell you how many hours my poor babe spent jumping in this in the bathroom doorway.

Lazy baby And just to piggyback on that, I do have the world’s laziest baby so I was lucky in the sense that she is content snuggling with me or playing quietly with her toys.

Fluids No brainer. Easier said than done with this virus but I managed sips of water and gatorade when I could.

Milk flow If you have followed me for any amount of time, then you know I work hard to maintain my milk supply. You can imagine how nervous I was for my supply to be affected by this stomach virus so I mixed in my favorite Upspring Baby nursing supplement, Milkflow,  to a small glass of orange juice each morning. This week made me even more impressed with how perfectly created women are. Even when I was down 9 lbs in two days, and hardly able to keep in any sips of fluids, my supply stayed stable for my girl! I could not be more thankful for that and am glad I could pump her up with antibodies- she luckily never got the virus. knock on wood.

and most importantly,

Friends & Neighbors I am so, so, so lucky to have the most amazing friends and neighbors who check in on me and help with my babe when my husband can’t be here. We have recently been in the real estate market for a home in the country (we wanted 3 acres and distance). After being sick and alone this week I have TOTALLY reconsidered staying in suburbia! Why am I even trying to fight it?? I spent my whole life wanting to be a suburban housewife (true haha, I mean with distinction of course- we are not all the same), might as well not give up the prize now! lol 😛 Truly, friends make this place home for me.
